In 2013, The Minnesota Valley National Wildlife Refuge Trust acquired this parcel known as the “Nelson” tract. The unit, now known as the “Nelson Waterfowl Production Area” is kitty-corner to Lincoln WPA. Located approximatley 2.75 miles south of Minnesota Highway 60 on Blue Earth County road 32, the unit consist of approximately 160 acres of varied terrain. Restoration of the project was started in late 2014 with additional efforts completed in 2015.

In 2014, Minnesota Pheasants Inc. – Blue Earth County Chapter partnered with the Minnesota Valley Trust and the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service on the restoration of the old building site. The area has been planted with a very heavy mixture of forbs. Additional restoration on the unit will be on-going.
